Every house must have its beauty and it should be the principal protagonist on an urban movie. This project is about a multifamily building for a filmmaker who needs different spaces for his own life experience, recreation and working, each one with a sensitivity given by the materials. The house design follows the principles of minimalism, with two horizontal elements and a basement that distributes the functions mentioned.
According to Wikipedia, a filmmaker is a person who directs the making of a film. A film director visualizes the script, controlling a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of his or her vision. This means that the house were a Film Director will live needs a working space with enough expansion and protection from unwanted light entrances.
The house is located on a big plot of Caracas, near to "El Cafetal". The
neighborhood is shared with other familiar houses and a circle park around them. The hall of the filmmakerhouse receives the horizontal elements to connect the interior functions. This entrance has a parking place and a mark of vegetation for visual decorative too. After this, we found the principal scene for the director, the drawing room, involving the structure, vegetation and the welcoming on the same place. The east a north light entrances are used for the experience spaces (master and secondary rooms) on the second floor, next to the family room. Nowadays, modern houses have what is called “the room theater" which is the darkest place of the home and it is furnished with long sofas and a principal piece where the audio-visual elements are organized. This space is located on the basement for working activities. Finally, all these spaces are connected to the private garden for recreate activities like parties, barbecues, among others.
The principal material used on the house is wood because this material is easier to obtain, transport, and work than other natural materials. It's very resistant to the weather present on these hills and it will keep warm the experience spaces. The wood covers the external facades and the interior with different treatments. The exterior is composed with cherry wood, and the interior is decorated with teak wood. The floor has wood panels too.
But there are other two materials on this house. One of them is the metal, the visible supports are made with steel; it does the work of column easier, because it could be used as a structure or as a decorative element at the same time. The round columns that sustain the tension of the second floor use this resistant material and define the public area. The other material present in the house is glass. It covers the windows and the east façade to give open vision to the garden. The ground floor has an important glass opening that allows the expansion of the service zone like the kitchen and dining room.
The framed structure is an iron and steel skeleton that sustain the weight of the house. Post structures are visible to the public but the lintel is involved with the wood roof and it can be seen only on the planes. This house also has two auxiliary structures. One of them is arch on the entrance and the other one is located between the garden and the dining room. Into this massive structures are contained the grooming spaces.
The filmmaker house is an example of simplistic design with important spaces that make possible a confortable and dynamic life style. You can go upstairs and take a rest or go downstairs and watch your favorite movie.
